Baytown businessmen rally for Harris County stadium bonds
Baytown leaders gathered at the Holiday Inn to back a 9.6 million stadium bond plan. No Ashbel Smith Land Annexation Delayed
Baytown city council did not discuss annexing the remainder of Ashbel Smith Land Co. property at Thursday night’s last meeting of the year. If annexed after January, it would not appear on 1964 tax rolls. Ashbel Smith attorney Robert Strickland argued against annexation citing existing city revenue from already included land. The tract covers about 1,500 acres with only 50 acres currently taxed inside city limits.
