1860 San Jacinto Yacht Club regatta on the bay
The San Jacinto Yacht Club held its first regatta on April 19, 1860, starting from Lynchburg and racing down the San Jacinto River toward Morgan’s Point before returning. The event featured sloops such as Favorite and Cassy Holt, with Col. James Morgan at the helm of Favorite, which won despite Morgan’s blindness. Other boats included Clementine Clara Lively Sally Calder and Mayflower, along with the schooner Frolic. The race reflected a era when boating was a primary mode of transport and recreation in the bay area.
