She married Cecil J W Newton after high school and they celebrated 71st anniversary in 2015. She worked at Exxon Baytown Sun and as a real estate agent, but mainly a homemaker and devoted Christian. She taught Bible studies hosted prayer groups helped establish a women’s Bible study and brought Women’s Aglow to Baytown. Survived by husband Cecil three children four grandchildren seven great grandchildren and many relatives. Services held at Navarre Funeral Home with burial at Memory Gardens Baytown.

Sleeping preschooler left on Goose Creek bus at Stallworth
A 4 year old male from Lorenzo De Zavala Elementary reportedly fell asleep on a Goose Creek CISD bus and was left alone when the bus parked at Stallworth Stadium. He woke, wandered in the stadium lot, and was found by another driver. He is safe and returned to school. discipline for the driver will follow.

Gospel singer LaBreeska Hemphill dies at 75 in Nashville
LaBreeska Hemphill cofounder of The Hemphills gospel group died at age 75 in Nashville Tennessee. Originally from Flat Creek Alabama she learned music with the Happy Goodman Family and performed at the Ryman Auditorium at age nine. She married Joel Hemphill in 1957 and signed their first recording contract in 1966. The Hemphills rose to prominence through the 1970s 80s and 90s winning multiple Dove Awards and adding children Joey Trent and Candy to the lineup. Their popular songs include Hes Still Working on Me I Claim the Blood and Consider the Lilies.
