Cotton Shortage Drops U.S. Exports Sharply in 1967
Washington reports a 21 percent fall in U.S. cotton exports as domestic short supplies and fierce foreign competition shrink the market. World production rises to 52.1 million bales while U.S. output may dip below 11 million, threatening next year’s export potential. Major gains by Mexico, Brazil, Colombia, and Iran widen free world shipments. Soviet export declines could ease Western European demand. Red China is expected to boost imports as its crop remains small.
