Barry Goldwater Faces GOP Chair Mandate Tension
Former President Eisenhower and Vice President Nixon urged Sen. Goldwater to back a broadly based GOP leadership. They pressed that the party chairman must command a mandate, not just a narrow majority, ahead of the Chicago National Committee meeting.
