Danny Waddell, son of Mr and Mrs M T Waddell, earned a National Council of Teachers of English achievement award for high performance on last year’s test at Robert E Lee High School. He is among 70 outstanding students nationwide selected for the honor and may receive college scholarships in 1963.

Seven Baytown Students and Two REL Teachers Attend Academy
Baytown's seven science students from Robert E. Lee High School joined two teachers Mae Nelson and Kenneth Voytek at the Texas Academy of Junior Science meeting in Austin. Four students earned honors with wins in two physical science sessions, led by Paul Quinton Danny Waddell and Larry Clevenger. Junior Caroline Kelso also won an honor, and others including Susan Brazzill Bonita Brazzill and Pat Wylie participated. The joint event with the National Academy of Science offered opportunities to hear papers across fields and meet noted scientists.
