ExxonMobil names Baytown mayor alum Refiner of the Year
Longtime Baytown Mayor Pete Alfaro received ExxonMobil’s Refiner of the Year award at the companys holiday reception. The 24th annual honor highlights Alfaro’s community service including roles with Lee College, the Hispanic Chamber, Rotary Baytown and Bay Area agencies. During his tenure, the Fred Hartman Bridge and Spur 330 flyover were completed. Alfaro, who moved to Baytown in 1969 and retired in 2000 after 31 years at ExxonMobil, credited himself with opening doors to underserved residents. He was joined by his wife Lupe.

Confessed killer to go before judge in Chambers County
Kevin Edison Smith, 45, who recently confessed to the rape and slaying of 13 year old Krystal Baker in 1996, will appear Monday before Judge Carroll E. Wilburn Jr. He is expected to plead guilty to the March 5 1996 murder and accept a life sentence in exchange for avoiding the death penalty. His crime occurred under the Trinity River Bridge along Interstate 10. The plea follows a deal with Chambers County DA Cheryl Lieck.

Firefighters collect for Share Your Christmas Food Drive
