City officials and residents praise amateur radio operators for their service and essential role in community safety and connectivity. The recognition highlights volunteers who provide emergency support, event coordination, and reliable communication during outages and public events.

Locals rally around Mount Olive Baptist Church founded by former slaves in 1870 on Cedar Bayou. Under Rev. A L Franklin the 150 member congregation faced repeated storms, with Hurricane Ike destroying the building and mold from 1983 Alicia flooding lingering as signs of damage. Parishioners hope for recovery on Cedar Bayou site.
Baytown opens a Life Flight helipad at Baytown Airport on Barkaloo with on site living quarters and office space for crews. Airport manager Charlie Danley says the facility will cut response times to Baytown and east Houston, with a Wednesday invitation only opening ceremony featuring Life Flight helicopters and a three bed room hangar space. Memorial Hermann and local officials are invited.
Residents packed downtown Baytown for Historic Goose Creek Association’s Christmas on Texas Avenue. About 7,000 attendees joined vendors selling arts crafts and food while Josh Fey Band performed. District 2 Councilman Scott Sheley credited Baytown Art Center activities and noted chalk card making by 19 participants as a crowd favorite. Pony rides photo area and car show drew families.
Baytown Junior League opens Goodfellows toy program with applications at the Baytown Community Center on December 2 and December 4 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Donations are tax free and can be sent to Goodfellows P.O. Box 425 Baytown TX 77522. Page 2A lists contributors.
Baytown resident Lucille Serbe turned 91 as the VFW Post 912 Auxiliary presented her a one year subscription to The Baytown Sun. Luetta McFarland helped choose the gift to help her keep up with world events, with Serbe pictured accepting the newspaper.
