On opening day Louisiana teams made a strong showing at the Lee College Classic sweeping three of four games.
The City of Baytown hosts its annual Christmas parade tonight at 6 30 p m starting Market Street moving along Texas Avenue to Commerce Street under the theme Twas the Lights Before Christmas Floats including Santa Claus will be judged in multiple categories with more than 250 entries.

Baytown plans a Family Aquatics Center at the Wayne Gray Sports Complex, slated to open in May 2010. An interlocal deal funds up to 100000 for engineering and design with Kimley Horn, while the current pool remains open through 2008. the old facility will be demolished in fall 2008. Bonds approved by voters provide 10.94 million for parks with aquatics at the core, first 4 million bonds to be sold in March.
Baytown and Mont Belvieu students fill the 41st annual Student Art Exhibition at the Baytown Community Center. The Parks Department hosts the event drawing hundreds of parents and art enthusiasts. Recreation specialist Shontele Fontenot praises the community and students while Wayne Gray notes ongoing park programs expand beyond sports. See art page 3A.
Baytown City Council unanimously approved an ordinance strengthening watershed and surface water protections under Article VIII Watershed Protection. The measure targets streams and impaired waters near the city and extraterritorial areas, aiming to curb pollution from development and stormwater runoff to safeguard health, safety, and future public water supplies.
Garth Road Baptist Church plans its final service at the current site as Pastor Jim Lamb leads the congregation out of the commercial neighborhood. The church was founded in August 1961 by Dr A E Weatherly, known as Brother Ed, who urged a church on Garth Road. Weatherly led until his death in 2005.
