Highlands Junior School to add new facility for arts typing and choir
A proposed $300000 additional building at Highlands Junior School would house arts and crafts, a typing lab with 40 stations, and a choir room. The project frees current rooms for regular classes, shifts the orchestra to the existing choir room, and enlarges the cafeteria to accommodate more students as part of a $20.5 million bond program on the December ballot.

Cautiously Hopeful About Energy Bill Says Texas Governor
Texas Governor Dolph Briscoe in Washington voiced cautious optimism that any energy bill Congress passes will not grant the federal government authority to allocate Texas interstate gas supplies to other states. He cited talks with Sen. Russell Long and Sen. Lloyd Bentsen, meeting President Carter, and discussions with Interior Secretary Andrus. Briscoe predicted a 73 percent chance no energy bill passes, leaving current gas laws intact, and said Andrus would reevaluate the Interior stance on Matagorda Island, aiming for state title and wildlife refuge status with limited public access.
