Cloudy to partly cloudy conditions with slightly warmer temperatures forecast for Tuesday in the Baytown area. Expect a temperature range from the low to mid 70s. Galveston tides show a high at 10 50 p m and a low at 1 30 p m on Wednesday.
U S officials report about 20 dead and 30 wounded after a Viet Cong assault on the Dak Song hamlet near the Cambodian border. Attackers, estimated around 400 guerrillas, burned homes in a Mon–tribe village as U S forces fight back amid a broader air campaign against targets north of Hanoi.
Nine deer have been donated to the Robert E. Lee Gander Booster Club for its annual barbecue at 7 p.m. Tuesday December 12. President Jim Orchin says at least six more venison donations are needed to feed 200 athletes and their parents. Wumsch's Meat Market at 1400 Crosby Lynchburg Road volunteers to process donations at no cost. Donations accepted daily 7:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. except weekends. Two former Baytonians Jay Shepherd and his wife Dorothy 47 died in a Monday automobile crash between El Paso Texas and White Sands New Mexico. Dorothy Shepherd formerly worked as Bastown Sun advertising rep and radio announcer at KREL before KRWSA. Survived by daughter Peggy a UH freshman and two sons Michael and Patrick, plus siblings and parents. Funeral arrangements incomplete.
A H Uncle Bud Smith 79 longtime Humble and oil production official in Sour Lake and Baytown died Monday in Houston after a long illness. He joined Humble in 1915 and served as Sour Lake superintendent, then Baytown Goose Creek district chief until retiring in 1953. Funeral at Bethany Christian Church Houston with burial in Forest Park Lawndale. He was an avid baseball fan and weather club figure, survived by wife Jessie, son Bass, daughter Rolande Bielstein, two sisters, a brother, and five grandchildren.
Police arrested scores of antiwar protesters as about 3000 marched to close a Manhattan center. Dr Benjamin Spock and poet Allen Ginsberg were among those detained after sitting on the sidewalk and blocking traffic. One thousand three hundred six officers stood by as crowds gathered in Battery Park to block access through lower Manhattan.

About seventy Texas municipalities representing a third of the state population voted today on an optional one per cent city sales tax. Turnout was expected light, with Dallas forecasting around 30,000 voters. Dallas officials promised no property tax hike for FY 1968-69 if approved.
Armed hold up at a Decker Drive service station near Slapout Gulley hHalf pm left a 65 year old attendant injured and cash stolen. A police dragnet captured two suspects within hours. Ronald Lee Thompson, 26, Channelview, and Darlene Kay Bryson, 24, San Antonio, were jailed without bond for robbery by firearms. A third white male suspect remained at large.
Bing Devine resigned as Mets president and returned as general manager of the World Series champion St. Louis Cardinals, replacing Stan Musial. Musial remains with St. Louis as vice president, ending his playing career.
