DPS veteran Sigers launches bid for Chambers County Sheriff
Hugh Sigers a 56 year old 27 year veteran of the Texas Department of Public Safety filed for the Republican nomination for Chambers County Sheriff on Wednesday. He announced in The Baytown Sun offices with friend Steve McCorquodale. Sigers has lived in the county 25 years and joins former Mont Belvieu Police Chief Fred Dodd in facing Sheriff Monroe Kreuzer Jr. in a March 9 primary. Kreuzer has indicated plans for a second term amid a department tainted by scandals and deputy indictments. Joe LaRive Beaumont Police detective is the only Democrat candidate. Sigers cites a tarnished public image as the major issue.

Barrett Station Community Center Opens in Harris County
Harris County hosts the opening of the $1.2 million Barrett Station Community Center at 6230 p.m. The 9,250-foot auditorium seats 400, replacing the old 165-seat facility linked by a covered walkway.
