Water Power Use Dates Back To Ancient Times
Water power has been used since ancient times with water wheels lifting river water for irrigation. Before electricity, mills along rivers depended on water wheels and turbines, while large falls now transmit power as electricity. Transmission costs rise with voltage, but higher voltage reduces line losses and enables distant plants like Grand Falls to feed grids from Manicouagan, with total investments running tens of millions.
