Fred Hopper returns from a two week deer hunt near Bedlas with a 10 point buck. Continuous car trouble dampens an otherwise fine deer season.
A secret executive board hearing of the Harris County Medical Society censured Dr Leader for unethical conduct from a July 3, 1958 speech opposing the society leadership and the proposed city county charity hospital site. Leader plans an appeal to the Texas Medical Association and could face membership suspension or expulsion.
A Houston shareholder, Jack Finkelstein, filed in 326th District Court Austin seeking a permanent injunction to block Humble Oil and Refining Co. merge with Standard Oil Co. of New Jersey. The suit challenges asset sales without unanimous shareholder approval amid Standard Oil's plan to merge its United States operations under Humble. Finkelstein holds 2000 Humble shares and says the merger could freeze him out of future involvement. The case follows Standard Oil stockholders’ approval in New York and Humble holders’ prior consent in Houston. The secretary of state approved the merger certificate after court restraint was not served. No hearing date set.
For the first time in Mutual Benefit Assn history two Baytown Refinery annuitants were elected to the board. Karl Opryshek won a two year term alongside Walter H. Boucher and other holdovers. Ballots were counted Tuesday by the election committee.
Only a few hours remain for entries in the My Summer Place Ad venture letter writing contest. Final entry time is 9 p.m. Wednesday with twenty five dollars in Dallas cash to the winner. The letter, of 50 words or less, must be delivered to Brinson or Baytown Sun offices by 9 p.m. Wednesday or postmarked by then. Baytown sponsors include The Brinson Theater The Travel Agency Department of The Citizens National Bank and Trust Co and The Baytown Sun.
Gasser in Trinity Bay is capped after Tidewater Oil crews pumped mud into the wellhead to stop the blaze at Umbrella Point. The company said the operation saved time and expense and that a relief well, planned east of the flaming gusher, would have redirected the fire. Spectators watched the illumination for nights, with no danger to shipping. Exploratory work has begun at the site to assess salvageability.
Two Baylowe sisters Mrs. Yismel Coronady and Mrs. Arthur Da Leon each gave birth at San Jacinto Memorial Hospital on Monday. Andrew Da Leon arrived at 12:49 AM weighing 7 pounds 32 ounces. His cousin Yismael Coronado arrived at 12:48 PM weighing 6 pounds 244 ounces. Grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. ERGns Martines, with paternal grandmother Mrs. Mexaner De Leon of Port Arthur and maternal grandmother Mrs. Seti Curcopadn ofio.
The Goodfellows in Baytown expect to supply gifts for more than a thousand children this Christmas. PTA groups in the Baytown School District arrange bag making, with volunteers sewing and adding candy fruit and toys. Donations are sought from all residents to support the 1959 Goodfellows, with contributions welcomed at The Baytown Sun office.
President Eisenhower signaled government readiness to take decisive steps as the Taft Harley injunction nears expiry, warning that failure by management and labor to reach a settlement in the public interest could cost both sides. He also said his international tour will stress the United States as a partner for peace with justice and may touch on India Pakistan and China border issues.
Dr. Allen K. Hall of Baytown died February 7. Harris County medical examiner Dr. J G Clarke ordered an autopsy after Dr. Hall’s sister Mary Nugent requested a conclusive cause. Four doctors who viewed the body previously attributed heart trouble.

Dr Hall dies on arrival at San Jacinto Memorial Hospital after a house call.[sic] his widow and patrons urged ensuring clear return addresses and recipient details. Officials warn parcel size limits affect delivery and stress prompt mailing and proper labeling to reach destinations within 10 days.

Fort Worth and Houston officials seek approval for a 10 million dollar Livingston reservoir and a 5 million dollar Wallisville salt water barrier to secure future water supply amid opposition from the San Jacinto River Authority and other parties.
