Dr Leader censured by Harris County Medical Society

A secret executive board hearing of the Harris County Medical Society censured Dr Leader for unethical conduct from a July 3, 1958 speech opposing the society leadership and the proposed city county charity hospital site. Leader plans an appeal to the Texas Medical Association and could face membership suspension or expulsion.

Dissenting Shareholder Challenges Humble Merger in Court

A Houston shareholder, Jack Finkelstein, filed in 326th District Court Austin seeking a permanent injunction to block Humble Oil and Refining Co. merge with Standard Oil Co. of New Jersey. The suit challenges asset sales without unanimous shareholder approval amid Standard Oil's plan to merge its United States operations under Humble. Finkelstein holds 2000 Humble shares and says the merger could freeze him out of future involvement. The case follows Standard Oil stockholders’ approval in New York and Humble holders’ prior consent in Houston. The secretary of state approved the merger certificate after court restraint was not served. No hearing date set.

Annuitant Named To MBA Board

Tidewater Caps Trinity Bay Gas Well Fire

Gasser in Trinity Bay is capped after Tidewater Oil crews pumped mud into the wellhead to stop the blaze at Umbrella Point. The company said the operation saved time and expense and that a relief well, planned east of the flaming gusher, would have redirected the fire. Spectators watched the illumination for nights, with no danger to shipping. Exploratory work has begun at the site to assess salvageability.

Goodfellows Need Over 1 000 Bags for Baytown Christmas

AUSTIN AP The State Board of Water Engineers resumes hearings on two Trinity River dam proposals after a stalled session.
