The district attorney’s office has received five affidavits in the Esvtown police pay-off investigation. Edward Chandler a 13 year old boy of Highlands and Mrs E L Chandler were aboard a boat at Highlands Reservoir when a shotgun was being removed. The weapon discharged striking the boy in the right shoulder area. He was taken to San Jacinto Hospital in stable condition.
A radically designed aircraft developed by Texas A&M College with CAA funding flew its first test yesterday. The plane features an extra thick wing for insecticide spray, an open cockpit for visibility, and heavy landing gear for rough fields. O. W. Peggy Jean Moon seven lives with grandmother Hattie Roland at 1200 Duke Street and was severely bitten by a dog yesterday afternoon. Elmo Anderson, a Yumane Officer, said the dog owner hunted the animal and took it away last night and had not returned. Anderson could not inspect the dog for rabies. A UT Austin aide, Granberry, was named assistant to Chancellor James P. Hatt by the Board of Regents today.
Corporal William D. Duarte, 23, of Highlands, Texas, killed in action in Korea on November 5, carried a small Lone Star flag sent by his mother. He was a son of Jesus and the late Duarte, a Robert E Lee High School and Lee College alumnus who attended the University of Texas. His division was about 75 miles from Pyongyang when he fell. He left a last letter October 20 and his family, including three brothers and a sister, mourns his loss amid memories of Texas pride.
Allied forces prepared to abandon Pyongyang as Chinese and North Korean troops close in. A retreat toward the 38th parallel was seen as likely with planners fearing annihilation and uncertain weather delaying any orderly withdrawal.
