CRCU and Lamar Elementary staff organized a Thanksgiving meal for 15 local families. The outreach effort provided prepared plates and sides, reflecting community support ahead of the holiday. Local volunteers distributed meals and collected feedback for future events.
City Manager Bob Leiper told the Baytown West Chambers EDF meeting that several active efforts target new industrial and commercial ventures in Baytown and west Chambers County. Texas Roadhouse has applied for a permit on Garth Road near San Jacinto Mall, with an opening date not set. Leaders along with Mayor Stephen DonCarlos and EDF official B J Simon attended a San Antonio shopping center conference, noting renewed retailer interest in Baytown.
Baytown animal shelter director Marti Lechner urges adopting dogs, cats, and even a few birds as holiday gifts. The center offers adoptions Saturday from 10 am to 4 pm in the 200 block of Texas Avenue across from The Red Fox, with regular hours noon to 6 pm, Monday through Saturday. Adoption fees vary by animal. dogs and cats not neutered are 50 dollars with a 40 dollar neutering voucher, neutered pets 10 dollars, and birds 10 dollars. The shelter at 705 Lanier also hosts iguanas, snakes, and tropical fish on display for tours.
Lee College prompts students to register early for the Spring 2012 term. On campus registration runs until noon January 13, 2012, with classes beginning January 17. Enrollment has risen to over 6,000, and new rules include no late registration and mandatory orientation. Returning or transfer students may need vaccination proof under Texas Senate Bill 1107, with shots due within five years and at least 10 days before classes start.
CRCU President David Frazier presents a $10,000 check to Goose Creek CISD Education Foundation. Foundation leaders Mike Wilson and Jim Wadzinski accept, with Russell Ballard also participating. The drive aims for $150,000 to fund teacher excellence grants. since 2010 the foundation has issued 88 grants totaling over $105,000. Contact numbers provided for more information.
The Cedar Bayou Watershed Partnership will meet today from 5 30 p m to 8 p m at the Eddie W Gray Wetlands Center 1724 Market St The group is continuing its work on developing four Watershed Protection Plan for the area that drains into Cedar Bayou Tonight's meeting includes a discussion of water quality issues in the SEE BAYOU PAGE 3.
