Stocks finish mixed amid economy worries and Fed signals
U S stocks ended a fluctuating session mixed as weaker data stoked hopes of Fed rate cuts. GDP rose 4.0 percent in Q2 driven by business investment while jobless claims rose, sending the Dow down 50 points to 13238.73 and the S P 500 at 1457.64 as Nasdaq edged higher. Fed Chair Bernanke slated to speak at Jackson Hole amid signals policymakers stand ready to act if needed. The next meeting is Sept 18, with some anticipating earlier action.

Dr Charles Drew Legacy and a Baytown Resident
The car crash left Dr Charles Drew with fatal injuries after an overturned vehicle. Eyewitnesses deny a racial blood loss myth, confirming hospitals gave care and a transfusion was attempted. Drew’s death inspired advances in blood transfusion and the modern Red Cross program. Ray Wilson, a Baytown retiree, is reachable at rayehasen msn.com.
