In 2006 Manasah Davis led District 21-5A with 47 receptions for 040 yards and three touchdowns while averaging 34.8 yards per kickoff return and rushing 135 yards. He aims to lead the 2007 Rangers as senior leadership improves under first-year offensive coordinator Scott Large. Davis will be moved around as a key threat, with Large noting his work ethic and willingness to adapt.
Baytown Sterling and Pasadena Dobie face a final pre season scrimmage as coach Herb Minyard aims to lock in the varsity roster and backups. The session focuses on sharpening the ground game and stabilizing the offensive line with Xavier Hebert anticipated to return from injury. Minyard emphasizes improving execution ball security and defensive pursuit after an earlier scrimmage setback.
Sterling water polo teams eye a third straight tournament title at the Battleground event in the Clear Creek district. The Ranger boys and girls won titles recently at Strake Jesuit after opening wins at the Dirty Bay Invitational. Amy Olsen led the girls with five goals in the championship, while Tara Brigham had 11 saves and 12 steals. Boys stars Zayne Belal, Matt Chapa, and Stevie Ray paced a 17-7 final win over Strake Jesuit with Chapa and Taylor Sharp scoring four each.
Dayton High School unveiled a major stadium upgrade boosting capacity to about 9000 with a new home-side bleachers, press box, and a Broncos run-through helmet. Phase two adds 500-seat visitors to home side while Phase one included FieldTurf and a new fence. Home opener vs Friendswood on Sept 14 at 7 p.m.
