Chambers County Commissioners Court approved sweeping changes to precinct lines effective June 1, 1968. After an initial 3-2 defeat in the morning session, the court reconvened and passed the redistricting 4-1 with Commissioner Turner and McCollum voting for, Judge Nelson and Commissioner Lagow for, and Commissioner Mayes against. Realignment of justice and voting precincts was also approved to match new commissioners’ precincts. The plan, developed by a February committee led by Joe H Sandlin of Anahuac, was considered one of the chamber’s most controversial issues and was final despite tempers flaring during debate.
