Government lifts Puerto Rican livestock quarantine
The Department of Agriculture says no cattle fever ticks found in Puerto Rico for three years and lifts the federal quarantine there. The measure keeps in effect a small zone along the Rio Grande in Texas and also affects the Virgin Islands and Guam. Shipments from Puerto Rico of cattle and other susceptible animals no longer require dipping in insecticide. The remainder of the article notes a separate image caption about Erwin Tiersch and a German eight crew boat headed to the Mexico City Olympics with a lighter, tighter design.
