Baytown and ExxonMobil reach a private settlement over a $1.6 million sales tax overpayment. Baytown will repay $1.2 million by Sept. 30 for a full release, avoiding a state Comptroller process and effectively paying 75 cents on the dollar. City Manager Bob Leiper calls it a win-win as a computer glitch caused the original overpayment.
Barbers Hill ISD trustees vote to hold a November bond election for 60 million to finance security upgrades buses and other facilities. Officials say the plan does not raise taxes and will use local funding to cover needed school improvements.
Chambers County Sheriffs deputies seek a $10,000 plus across the board raise over two years. Moon presented charts showing deputies earn less than Baytown Mont Belvieu and Barbers Hill ISD police. Beginning sheriff's deputy earns 35462 annually while Baytown officers start at 44400 and Barbers Hill pays 35000 with overtime.
