Baytown officials have not begun formal advertising as about ten developers express interest in Bayland Island. The city unveiled two sale options with minimum bids of 100000 for the restaurant site with a 40 year ground lease and 37 million for the full island including the marina. A second option requires a citywide referendum and marina dredging obligations. buyers could sell the property afterward and would not be required to build on site.
Proposition 4 would allow area utility districts in nine counties around Harris to collect taxes and issue bonds to build parks and recreation facilities if voters approve on Sept 13. A 10 cent tax cap applies and districts could not incur debt without voter approval. Opponents warn of higher tax burdens despite potential local park creation.
