Baytown Reports First Confirmed SLE Case in Harris County
Linda Forys of the Harris County Health Department announced the first confirmed St Louis encephalitis case in Harris County occurred in a 44 year old Baytown woman after a second blood test. A 24 year old Baytown man remains under testing as a possible case. The health department is monitoring 10 to 15 additional suspected cases as mosquitoes transmit the illness.

LC appoints Cumberland college leader as next LC president
Lee College interim president Robert Larsson said Vivian Blevins will take over duties very early in September after the Board of Regents selected her to succeed Robert Cloud, who resigned in January. Blevins, CEO of Southeast Community College in Cumberland Kentucky since 1978, comes from the University of Kentucky system. Turner to be installed as St John’s Baptist pastor
The Rev. Charles Turner will be installed as pastor of St. John's Baptist Church at 1120 Bookertee in a 3 p.m. Sunday service. He comes from eight years as associate pastor at Sunlight Missionary Baptist Church in Houston, with fifteen years in ministry at Northeast Memorial and North Mount Olive in Cleveland. Turner, a former Marine, felt the call early and is Wheatley High School educated.
