Tampico Hit Hard as Hurricane Cuts Power and Kills

Emergency radio reports say a fierce hurricane near Tampico Mexico 100 miles west of the city lashed the area with winds up to 130 miles per hour. At least three people died and aid workers report blacked out communications with Tampico as the storm swept ashore. In Tonah nearby, a mother and her child were electrocuted on a live wire while refugees fled a school and residents faced exposure and fire risk from downed lines. Authorities tally 148 dead on Friday night across the Gulf region and Yucatan peninsula as five more deaths were confirmed in the Gulf area.
