Council to mull Brownwood park proposal

Baytown City Council will review a plan to develop the Brownwood Hazard Area into a 400 acre multi use state park with cleanup as first priority. The proposal outlines debris handling, lake creation, and possible open space acquisition funded with FEMA and city contributions.

Baytown Council Deliberates 31.5 Million Budget Hearings

Baytown City Council will hold a 7 p.m. public hearing on the proposed 31.5 million dollar fiscal 1984 85 budget with a 60 cent tax rate 2 cents below the current rate. The meeting will also review March 31 financial statements and consider Minex Inc drill permits for four city owned wells at W C Britton Park and Bayland Park along with a Metro policy request. Additional items include fire radio system bids about 130000, a cab service hearing for James Harding Allied Cab and City Cab, street name change for Public Library Avenue to Mary Elizabeth Wilbanks Avenue, senior taxi funds 50 percent municipal share, an emergency medical communications equipment plan, all way stops and a transit committee contract query with Houston Metro.

Baytown Delegates Back Reagan Platform at GOP Convention

Baytown representatives at the GOP convention praised the party platform and urged reelecting Ronald Reagan. Food costs push inflation higher in July details

The Labor Department reports July CPI up 0.3 percent led by a 0.3 percent rise in food costs with poultry and fish up 0.8 percent and fruits and vegetables up 0.6 percent. Gasoline fell 1.8 percent while housing costs climbed 0.5 percent.
