Mexico's VW workers at the Puebla plant, the only factory producing the new Beetle, went on strike Tuesday after a dispute over production and pay terms. The action involves plant employees and union representatives, signaling possible disruption to scheduled Beetle output and ongoing labor negotiations.
The union representing 9,400 workers rejected a February 1 percent pay increase plus a 5500 peso one time bonus. Union spokesman Arturo Montero said workers earning about 370 pesos daily seek an 8.25 percent raise. He warned the strike would halt production of 1,500 cars daily.
