Reagan White House lawyer John Roberts warned against describing the United States as "the greatest nation God ever created" in an Oct 11 1984 memo. The memo, part of 50 000 pages released from the Reagan era, depicts Roberts defending conservative policies and critiquing Chief Justice Warren Burger while serving in the White House counsel’s office from 1982 to 1986.
