Acuna trial challenged as not a conspiracy to convict
The writer rebukes Mr. Oliva for accusing police, DA, courts, and jury of conspiracy in the Acuna case. He notes the prosecution need not prove motive, emphasizes evidence over statistics, and argues the Sterling High School student was fleeing a court appearance for armed robbery and theft, not orchestrating a conspiracy.

Baytown remembers autumnal lows and growth milestones
In 1950 Baytown saw an autumnal low of 67 degrees with a rise forecast for the next day. By 1952 six Baytown men joined Lee College as the Korean veteran GI Bill first took effect. A 1990 De Zavala school reunion drew hundreds to the Baytown Community Center. The area’s population grew about 5,000 from 1990 to 1998 per the Texas State Data Center, after stronger 13,000 gains in 1970–80. In 2003 attorneys for Naomi Autin, injured during arrest via a Baytown officer’s Taser, delivered an ultimatum to the city. Autin later lost the case.
