Harris County Fresh Water Supply District No. 27 seeks 1.6 million dollars in bonds to fund repairs after 30 years without upgrades. President Pauline Brister says major problems exist with water pressure from misaligned lines and sewage leaks during heavy rain, risking fines by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality.
Baytown authorities direct Lee High School traffic flow from BAYTOWN-Tornonto Stadium using Gentry and Carnegie. Carnegie is now a one way street. drop off and pickup require specific routes. About 12 police officers monitor the area to enforce the new rules as school starts.
Baytown officials propose a four lane extension of Bush Road north of Lynchburg Cedar Bayou Road to link Connally Road with John Martin Road and reach Interstate 10. The plan aims to improve access for area residents and reduce traffic on Garth Road, with Harris County backing and an estimated cost of 4.2 million dollars.
Sterling Municipal Library seeks volunteer literacy tutors to train and match with adult students improving basic reading and English skills. Tutors meet two hours weekly in private study rooms. training sessions are Sept 20 and 27. To register call Jamie Eustace at 281-427-7331.
Lee College continues fall class registration with hours 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. today and 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday at Moler Hall Registrar's Office. Registrar Becki Griffith notes students without full enrollment still have chances to register.
