City Manager C D Middietau said delays in obtaining controllers hold up several new traffic lights. The Cedar Bayou Road and Highway 166 intersection awaits a controller, as do lights at Highway 116 and James, and in front of the new Market Street fire station where a push button unit will aid firemen leaving for calls. A red signal at Market Street will stop traffic as trucks exit the station.
Bulgaria apologized to the United States for the deaths of 12 Americans aboard an Israeli plane shot down over Bulgarian territory on July 27. MARKED TREE ARKANSAS Officials of the Prison Railroad began an investigation Saturday to determine what caused a switch to fly open and derail four Kansas City-Florida Special cars killing five and injuring twelve. The derailment occurred as the express passed Marked Tree at speed, a broken pin and sprang switch blamed by railway manager PB. Rainey. Witnesses recalled firecracker like noises and blue smoke from beneath the train as cars telescoped and wreckage spread. Several injured were treated locally before ambulances arrived.
