Freezers cut shopping and prep time by about 12 percent and are most economical for storing bulk home grown foods or buying commercially frozen items in quantity. In Phoenix, households froze about 861 pounds yearly, with 60 percent meat and dairy, 11 percent fruit, 9 percent vegetables, and 7 percent misc. They stored 40 percent at home, 30 percent at lockers, 30 percent from other commercial plants.
