Ruling May Decide Communist Party Registration
Washington reports that after 16 months of hearings the Subversive Activities Control Board is drafting a finding on whether the Communist party is foreign controlled. A verdict against the party would force disclosure of membership lists and subject individuals to restraints under the McCarran Act of 1950. Final arguments were presented as government and party attorneys summed up their cases. The government contends the party is Kremlin controlled and seeks to undermine the U S government. Americans spent over $400 million yearly on foreign travel.
