Sterling hosts upbeat ice cream social kickoff for football season
The Sterling football booster club organized a full house ice cream social in the Sterling High School cafeteria. Booster club president Randy Larson praised strong participation with the band and cheerleaders, noting 400 cups of ice cream and 50 two liter bottles of Coke were sold. Principal Trey Kraemer thanked for reinforcing the Ranger logo barrier in the commons. First year offensive coordinator Scott Large called the turnout impressive with standing room only.

Barbers Hill undefeated after opening day routs in area tourney
Area teams opened tournament play with Barbers Hill staying perfect by handing Sterling its first loss. Sterling defeated Little Cypress Mauriceville 25-16 25-16 25-11, then fell to Barbers Hill 25-15 15-25 19-25 25-20 15-13, and beat Clear Springs 25-19 25-14 25-9.
