The Charter Review Committee holds its daytime public forum at Sterling Municipal Library today at 1 p.m. Citizens can speak on possible Charter changes as the panel seeks public input after last week's turnout of over 30 people.
Goose Creek and Anahuac school districts reported a smooth first day as students returned to class. Officials noted strong attendance, expected total enrollment near 20 000 with district growth of over 750 students, and minor bus routing issues resolved. Anahuac added two kindergarten classes due to higher turnout.
Chambers County commissioners held a brief public hearing on the preliminary 2005 budget. They plan to vote to approve the balanced budget at the Sept. 14 regular meeting in the Chambers County Courthouse. Constance Lee Forman 45 of Baytown faces trial in Houston’s 230th District Court for allegedly embezzling about 2.2 million dollars from the office of cardiologist Dr. Edward Leahey at San Jacinto Methodist Hospital campus over two years. She was arrested March 31 and has been held without bond.
