Chambers nephews shaped Texas county and press history
Two nephews of Gen Thomas Jefferson Chambers gained local fame in Liberty and Chambers counties. T. Jeff Chambers, a lifelong newspaperman and editor of the Liberty Vindicator, served in the Confederate Army, later returned to politics, and helped run a family owned press. William Morton Chambers became the first county judge of Chambers County after its creation in 1858 and also served as Liberty County judge before. Both represented District 1 at the Secession Convention in 1861 and served in the Confederate Army.
