Tale of two school districts consolidation story details 1954
In March 1954 about 100 people gathered at Cedar Bayou High School to watch the polls close and count ballots as Cedar Bayou and Goose Creek vote to merge. The decisive results favored consolidation 1,072 to 654 in Cedar Bayou and 1,579 to 506 in Goose Creek, ending prior defeats. The merger created Goose Creek Consolidated Independent School District, reshaping communities, memories, and campus life.
