School Board Hires Information Director

The school board on Monday night approved a new director of informational services for the district over objections from Trustee Mrs. Kart Ww. Opryshek. Mrs. Sue Powers, a Horace Mann Junior School teacher, was chosen on Supt. George H. Gentry’s recommendation. The board also considered appointing Kim Worden as visiting teacher for attendance problems. Opryshek argued funds should go to remedial reading teachers and library staff, not a public relations officer. Other trustees supported the move, saying the program would serve broad audiences and improve district communications. The proposal includes a news bureau, speakers bureau, events bureau, newsletter, closed circuit TV, and better PR coordination.}
