No Change Proposed In Tax Rate City
City Manager Fritz Lanham presented for the council a balanced budget totaling $2,963,970, $193,216 more than last year, for the 1964-65 fiscal year beginning Oct. 1. No change in the tax rate and no new revenue are proposed. Hearings over the budget will continue and a public hearing date will be set before final adoption. Major increases stem from new full time positions and merit-based raises, plus a $50,000 boost to the street improvement fund, raising next year’s spending to $745,000. Surpluses from last year will offset the increase, with $112,190 in general fund surpluses and $88,882 in water and sewer surpluses carried forward. Other small surpluses will also be carried over.
