Abbott eyes higher testing as Texas schools reopen
Gov. Greg Abbott said Texas could boost coronavirus testing as schools reopen after a decrease in tests. The state averaged over 34 000 tests per day last week, down from over 60 000 in late July, while rolling positivity rose toward 20 percent. Deaths near 8 500, with new cases stabilizing, and Abbott cited surge teams for rising testing and urged colleges to pursue a healthier football season amid the pandemic.
