Regents hear cost cutting options for new theater center
Acoustics expert Charles Bonner and architect Wes Good led discussions to shrink the theater’s size from 1,000 seats to 800, and to combine rehearsal and performance spaces to cut costs. Firms Kirksey BGK and WJHW report scaled designs to about 40,471 square feet with an estimated $14 million price tag, $2 million over budget, with potential extra savings if seating is reduced to 600–700. Regents to interview more firms at 5:30 p.m. in Tucker Hall as a May construction contract and a one year later opening are planned.
