Baytown six of seven city council members support a blanket 11 percent raise for city employees if voters approve a $45 a month salary increase for policemen on Saturday August 25. Councilman Huron opposes tying the raise to broader increases arguing no mandate exists. The plan could require a three cent tax hike to fund the police raise and a 15 cent hike for full citywide raises, totaling about $101,000 yearly if all employees receive the increase.
