BPD seeks help identifying copper thieves after a theft involving outdoor copper wiring near Crosby High School. Police request public assistance, early information on suspects, and any related tips to PAGE 12.
Baytown Police Chief Keith Dougherty urged residents of the Friends of Cedar Bayou United to minimize opportunities for theft and pre-plan safety, advising locking purses in trunks and hiding valuables. The session at Roseland Park Pavilion was the group’s first after summer and included Councilman Robert C. Hoskins, Assistant Chief David Alford, and 23 attendees.
Contracting, Inc. workers continue base work on the Spur 330 to State Highway 146 direct connector. Morning activity avoids heat. project aims for December completion, making the fourth direct connector in Baytown in five years and linking Spur 330 east to Highway 146 north as a key hurricane evacuation route.
Hurricanes Ike left many homes unrepaired in Chambers County. HGAC administers the Disaster Recovery Housing Program with DSW Homes handling about 75 Round 1 repairs in the area and more in Round 2 across several counties. Lee College will begin receiving funds from its $40 million bond election as early as Aug 29 after a unanimous Board of Regents vote. The AA2 rating from S&P and a 25 year repayment term set the terms, with interest averaging 4.42 percent across bonds from 2.87 to 4.91 percent. Proceeds fund Rundell Hall renovations, expanded workforce development facilities, and other upgrades to support enrollment growth and new programs.
