Famed Occidental changed since old days in Washington cafe
The Occidental Restaurant once famed for its legendary figures has shifted. Joe Cannon's era is gone, replaced by a quieter atmosphere and a reorganized wall gallery. Dozens of autographed pictures line the lobby, renaming space for generals, presidents, and notable figures while some long-time names disappear. The owners note wall reconfiguration and similar dining costs across parties, with Democrats and Republicans now spending about the same. A separate item notes a Monterey hen laying an unusually long egg weighing over a quarter inch.
