Houston Beer Strike Not Felt In City Says Baytown Distributors
Baytown beer distributors say a Houston Brewery Workers strike against seven major wholesalers over wages is unlikely to raise beer prices locally. Most Baytown distributors source directly from breweries and operate independently of Houston. Falstaff Distributing Co. is the only Baytown firm with union workers, not part of the strike. Local 111 business agent Bobby Idom notes the threat of price hikes aims to sway public opinion against the wage demands. The union, about 275 drivers helpers and warehousemen, now seeks only 1.4-cent per case for drivers and helpers and a $10 weekly increase for warehouse staff.
