Obama urges Americans to reject racist language in politics
Former President Barack Obama urged Americans to denounce leaders who fuel fear and racism after the Texas and Ohio mass shootings. He said the nation can act to change gun laws and avoid further tragedies, without naming President Trump directly, while condemning dehumanizing rhetoric and calls to demonize minorities.

GOP retirements heighten Texas path to House majority
Texas shifts in demographics and political loyalties complicate GOP hopes for the House in 2020. The announcement that Rep Kenny Marchant will retire adds to a wave of Republican exits as Democrats point to rising Hispanic and minority populations and the polarizing impact of Trump. Cornyn remains favored to keep Texas’s 38 electoral votes despite Democratic gains fueled by suburban disaffection and past close races.
