A woman who lost most of her leg two inches below the knee faced skepticism about walking and prosthetics. Once an alpine and water skier and chemical dependency counselor, she chose to turn her experience into personal growth and helping others, channeling adversity into resilience.
A paraplegic woman named Cruise pursued a nine year dream of walking across the United States. She studied prosthetics, learned to maneuver, and prayed to turn adversity into progress, sharing her journey on her website at www.aithwalk.net.
Carol Cruise began a long journey on January 1 2002 walking north from South Beach Miami leaving her parents home to share a ministry across the United States. She crosses mile markers with tags that invite contact and citations from crosses left along the road. A team of supporters and a caravan have aided her, with Freedom Innovations donating a new foot and liners for her prosthesis. Cruise plans to return to Florida after visiting Dayton Liberty and other points, continuing to speak at hospitals schools churches and homes. She has endured heat strokes and months on the road over nearly nine years, learning that the church is about people not buildings.
