Mundt Says Memo Proves Inside Help
Senate investigators pressed the FBI to identify the author of an Agriculture Department memo cited by Sen. Karl Mundt as showing Billie Sol Estes had a powerful insider. The memo urged legal recognition of Estes cotton allotment transfers. Estes faces fraud and theft charges after past penalties and a 1960s investigation. The subcommittee seeks the memo’s typist and scribbled note author to pin down issuance.
