Baytown panel eyes overhaul of seven year industrial district deals
City representatives from a three member industrial district agreement committee met to review and revamp seven year contracts with 27 participating firms including ExxonMobil which provides about half of district payments. Current district revenue exceeds 36 percent of the general fund and 2002 03 payments are expected at 15.6 million toward a 75 million budget.

Landfill fight not over yet
Baytown attorney Guy Matthews told the Kiwanis Club that the withdrawal of support for the proposed TSP landfill by TNRCC’s executive director may not affect the case. Matthews represents 16 Beach City residents within a mile of the site and secured a temporary injunction in May over the lack of formal landfill rules. He noted the pending appeal of a federal injunction before the 5th Circuit and warned the case could still rise.

The Texas Education Agency rated Goose Creek Barbers Hill Anahuac Crosby and other area districts as recognized for performance based on TAMs results with emphasis on outcomes for poor and minority students and dropout rates.
