Russell goes first to Oakland in NFL draft burst
JaMarcus Russell, a 6 foot 6 quarterback who can fling 80 yards, was selected first by the Oakland Raiders in the NFL draft. Brady Quinn lingered until the 22nd pick as Cleveland traded back into the first round to secure Notre Dame’s quarterback. LSU safety LaRon Landry went to Washington, with two more Tigers chosen in the opening round. Quinn, once the top prospect, heaved a sigh of relief after the Browns made the selection amid boos and cheers.
