Perry proposals miss mark on Texas school finance
In a reader opinion, the writer attacks Gov. Rick Perry for proposed Texas school funding changes. They argue that splitting property taxes between residents and businesses weakens funding and that the franchise tax loophole should be closed. The piece also criticizes a 3 percent cap on property appraisals as damaging to homeowners and local government, opposes a teacher incentive plan, and calls for higher professional salaries for teachers. The author questions Perry's alignment with Texans’ interests and urges exploration of better financing options for education.
